Ultrasonography is an effective imaging modality for the diagnosis of rheumatic disease and follow-up. This report showed two patients with gout history presented with acute shoulder pain. Ultrasonographic study identified hypoechoic subdeltoid bursa and hypoechoic fluid surrounding the hyperechoic lesion, a possible conglomerate of urate, within the bulging acromioclavicular (AC) joint. Aspiration of the subdeltoid bursa and AC joint yielded some fluid and a small piece of white material, which demonstrated monosodium urate by polarized microscopic study. |
