Takayasu's arteritis (TA) is a rare idiopathic vasculitis that primarily affects large vessels of aorta and its main branches. TA occurs predominantly in young women during their reproductive years. Hypertension, often secondary to renal artery stenosis, is the most common major complication in TA. Untreated renal hypertension contributes to the high morbidity and mortality of the disease. We present herein a 26-year-old young female with TA complicated with reno-vascular hypertension, who terminated the pregnancy and received percutaneous transluminal angioplasty in left subclavian artery and left renal artery. The vascular lesions of the patient were initially detected by color Doppler sonography of the neck, and subsequently confirmed by aortogram and renal angiography. Early recognition followed by an aggressive management of the stenotic vessels is critical for improving the prognosis. |
