Peripheral polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) from patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) following stimulaion with calcium ionophore A23187, produced significantly less LTB4 than cells from normal controls (p< 0.001). LTB4 production by monouuclear leukocytes (MNC) was not significantly different in both groups. In RA patients, the LTB4 production was much less in PMN than in MNC (p< 0.001). However, in the normal controls, there was no significant difference between PMN and MNC. The reason for the depressed LTB4 production of PMN in RA patients is discussed. |
