The art works by artist Ching-Huo Chen contains highly personal features and plays considerably important role in the promotion of education in Chiayi area. The paper aims to explore into the art works made between 1971 and 2016. To achieve the research purpose, the author mainly applies the “in-depth interview” and “artistic criticism (including iconography) to conduct the research in an attempt to grasp the overview and context, and thereby acquire proper and objective conclusion. Specifically, the purpose of the study includes: (a) to inquire into the creation context of Chen, including the life and the background and apprenticeship that forms the art. (b) to analige of the works and features by Chen in different stage. The study findings show that the artistic context of Chen substantially affected his creations, particularly the time and space environment, growth background, and apprenticeship. The creation characteristics of the first stage consist in the hope and vitality, which power comes from the passion for life and the colors presented in the rich levels. Different creative styles are attempted in the second stage, where composite materials are combined with oil painting to emphasize more on the creation of profound reflection on life and thereby reaching some breakthrough. Consequently the plane paining is extended to the material with 3D space. At the third stage, social issues are brought into the creation, and in spite of less criticism discourse with sharp words or approaches to the participation in the social events, chen's works truthfully present, and the social through the mutiple artistic forms, Chen has the solid genuine sentiment of an artist, who ingrates his own life experience, literati quality, and emotions in life to form special self-style. Art education by him also enlightens many students to reach breakthrough and accomplish in life and art development. |
