四句的應用：心靈現象之多面向研究法

The Application of Buddhist Catus.kot.i as a Multi-Aspect Approach to Understanding Psychic Phenomenon

「四句」是佛教重用的思辨與分析工具，但Richard Robinson以降的西方學者卻未曾闡明其在科學議題分析上的適用性，所以本文須澄清「四句」不只具辯證性也作為分析工具。分別依據龍樹的「四句分別偈」與「四門不生偈」，本文作者指出，「四句」中的否定詞，如「一切實非實」中的「非」字，與「是故知無生」中的「無」字，分別有「非遮」（否定A 而指陳B）與「無遮」（純然否定）兩種意義：當要推導、展開四面向指涉，否定詞是「非遮」意；但在遮詮「無自性」時，須採「無遮」解。若以二值邏輯來轉寫「四句」，將遺漏「非遮」意。於是，作者呈現了「四句」各形式的兩向度：橫向觀照與豎向啟悟。在瞭解三論宗吉藏的「多重四句」後，作者藉此架構來研討李嗣涔所主持的手指識字實驗。這顯示「多重四句」不但有助瞭解「心靈現象」，也有助於全顯所涉的議題概念、研究方法、知識論或存有論。所以，本文初步以「多重四句」呈現了心靈研究進路的全範疇曼荼羅。

A Catuskoti is a Buddhist dialectical form. It consists of four arguments or perspectives, only one of which can be true at a time. This article demonstrates how to apply a catus.kot.i as an analytical device using Prof. Si-Chen Lee's finger-reading experiments. The resulting analysis promotes understanding of psychic phenomenon and manifests related concepts, phenomena, principles, and epistemologies.
