Healthcare workers (HCWs) face many types of occupational hazards, and needle-stick injury is one of the most common hazards. HCWs injured by the needle are very vulnerable to the risk of syphilis and infections by hepatitis B and C viruses and human immunodeficiency virus. The following assessment and treatment will involve a considerable cost. In view of this, the United States and Europe began promoting the use of safety needles a decade ago. Since 2011, the use of safety needles has been requested for checking the hospital’s infection control and hospital accreditation in Taiwan. Furthermore, the government medical law has declared the provision and implementation of the safety needles at all health care units by 2017. The purpose of this implementation is to actively promote the welfare policy to ensure the safety of HCWs. |
