In the past, the study of regional religious is very hard to become an important issue. But the religious development of Tamsui has special geographical and historical meanings, especially for the development of Christianity in northern Taiwan. After 1945, the most important Christian dominations in Tamsui are “Presbyterian Church” and “Catholicism.” Since 2000, churches have increased rapidly because of the formation of “Tamhai New Town,” and the springing up of the metropolitan missionary activities. In Tamsui, the establishment and development of the church are closely associated with the increase in population and settlement distribution. In the regions of more immigrants, there will be more churches. And in the period of rapid population growth, the church will be set up more intensively. The operation modes of the new churches also reflect the characteristics and needs of their local communities. This paper aims to explore the development of the Tamsui Christianity from 1945-2011, laying great stress on how Tamsui’s development influences the development of the Christian Churches. Through historical reading and field work, it attempts to give a preliminary interpretation of the post-war development of the Tamsui Christianity. |
