Collection Development Policy is a written document which state s clearly the mission and goal of a library, the responsibilities and work standards of a librarian, the access to library collections and resources for the readers, the acquisition and weeding of library collect ions and the communication tools for the library. University libraries have the three irreplaceable missions of supporting teachers, aiding research, and promoting academic study. Undoubtedly, collection development policy has a significant influence on university academic development. Most university library collection development policies are organized by collection managers. However, if collection managers don’t design these policies for the benefit of the readers, then academic research may suffer as a result. Thi s article discusses something about collection development policies of un iversity libraries on all aspects of why, what and how from the point of view of library users. It is hoped that t he collection development poli cy will also enable university library users to receive credits for academic research. |
