Traditionally, the studies of independent movements are mostly in the field of researching the processes of uprising, rebellion and force confrontation. These actions are intertwined with the ideas of norm, identity and culture based on social constructivism. With these core values and common ideas, actors are directed towards the nation-construction process. This article explores the cultural nationalism in the Irish independence movement. When a land is dominated and deeply influenced by another power for 800 years, amongst 400 years of constant fighting, there must be a kind of norm, identity, culture and other factors leading the Irish behavior. Taiwan has also been subjected to 400-year foreign regimes. Can the concept of constructivism provide Taiwan with something to learn so as to apply the concept of cultural nationalism to embody the Taiwanese consciousness, and depart from the sadness of being Taiwanese to the bright side of being pride to be a Taiwanese? |
