In this paper I talked about how to integrate narrative into creative storytelling, and how to design and implement this new teaching model. The narrative context is about Alice “back to future” from ancient Lin family's Garden (rewrite and recreate from many pre-existing stories). I provided simple narrative hooks - rescue a middle school student, Alice. The hooks offer a wide range of different kinds of storytelling opportunities by hypertext, interaction and nonlinear narrative. I paint the story in fairly broad outlines and count on the students to do the rest. Performance theorists have described RPGs as a mode of collaborative storytelling. This paper can help teachers integrate narration into creative storytelling in their Chinese teaching. |
