Yang Shuda (1885–1956), a philologist versed in classical documents, has been well known for his exegetic originality. However, due to the scholarly limitations of his era, some of his philological interpretations call for reconsiderations. In this paper I provide alternative interpretations of 11 characters which Yang discusses in his books: Jiweiju xiaoxue jinshi luncong (A Survey of Ancient Chinese Inscriptions) and Jiweiju xiaoxue shulin (A Survey of Chinese Philology). |
