Bronze inscriptions provide authoritative information on the origin of characters as well as the interpretations of ancient codes and records. They also serve as a valuable sourse of primary data for the study of ancient history, which no copies of classics and their commentaries ever since can do the same. Of the many talented scholars active since the Song dynasty, Yang Shuda(1885-1956) stands out for his mastery of paleography, philology, and historiography. Essentially the culmination of a lifetime of exacting research, Yang's Jiweiju jinwen shuo, at the same time substantiating and supplementing the theories presented therein. |
