Visiting scholars were invited to present papers at three seminars held by the Center for Chinese Studies (CCS) on December 15 and 22, 2008. December 15, 2008
In this seminar, Associate Professor Ma-li Svensson from Hedmark University in Norway spoke on the subject of 'Traversing a Thousand Li and Ten Thousand Books: A Look at Wang Zhen-yi and Her Writings on Astrological Studies.' The lecture was chaired by Professor Fu Ta-wei of the Institute of History at National Tsing Hua University. Professor Svensson, who earned a Ph.D. in mathematics, currently researches the history of math, science, and Confucian education in mathematics in China. Her lecture discussed Wang Zhen-yi’s (1769-1798) achievements in mathematics and astronomy, as is reflected in the compilation of her writings entitled Defengting chuji. |
