Special Exhibition of Buddhist Sutras at the National Central Library
The NCL recently treated the public to a rare peek at some of the nearly 400 Buddhist sutras and other Buddhist texts in its Rare Books Collection during the 'Special Exhibition of Buddhist Sutras at the National Central Library' from February 27 to April 10, 2007. The exhibition presented a representative selection of Buddhist works, including Sutras, biographies of the Buddha, Buddhist parables, and titles donated by individuals and groups over the centuries as meritorious deeds. Some of the titles on display dated back over a thousand years. The world's first volume printed in both black and red type ink was also on display. Scrolls, accordian-fold and string-bound volumes were represented, as were block-printed, moveable type, and stone rubbing works, presenting a fascinating look at the richness of Chinese printing throughout the ages. |
