Photographic Memories: Historic Photos of Taiwan (Vol.1) A picture, they say, speaks a thousand words and nowhere is this truer than in pictures capturing the historical moments in a nation’s development. The National Central Library has been actively building its collection of historical photos through various channels over recent years. Such photos offer a compelling look at the society, culture, people and events of Taiwan over the past century or so of rapid changes and development. Images in the library collection include nineteenth century photos taken in Taiwan by westerners and over 4,000 photographic postcards from the Japanese occupation period.
