The NCL organized a workshop introducing the second phase of a national program to promote reading through the public libraries of Taiwan on July 31, 2002. The workshop provided an opportunity for participating organizations to share their experience and progress in implementing the reading program, which has been spearheaded by the Ministry of Education. The achievements of exemplary libraries were also highlighted at the event.
The one-day workshop was attended by representatives of cultural bureaus and public libraries at the county, city and rural township levels. Keynote speeches were delivered by Mr. Chen Chin-tsan (陳金讚), head of the Neihu Culture and History Workshop; Ms. Chang Ching-wen (張文), a specialist in adult education; Ms. Yuan Mei-min (袁美敏), the department head of the Tienmu Branch of the Taipei Municipal Library; and Mr. Tseng Kun-hsien (曾賢), an editor at the NCL’s ISBN Center. Mr. Chen spoke on how to plan community reading activities, Ms. Chang on the modes and benefits of reading, Ms. Yuan on how to promote the reading program, and Mr. Tseng on the usage of traditional and online sources of reading materials. |
