One of the most pressing tasks in the preservation of Chinese literature is the need for libraries and data repositories worldwide to establish and expand their catalogs of such publications to facilitate resource sharing and cooperation. With these goals in mind, more than 80 library scholars and experts from Taiwan, mainland China, and other countries convened at the NCL for a second seminar on April 23 to 24, following the first such meeting in Beijing in June last year.
The seminar opened with a report on the development status of eight areas of inter-library cooperation. These included the establishment of databases for Chinese name authority, standards for library science terminology, Chinese rubbings, and a union catalog of ancient books; cataloging of Chinese block-print books; compilation of a general catalog of Chinese family registers; the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Digital Library; and the Digital Library of the History of Chinese Technology. The second session was devoted to the study and formulation of Chinese Metadata standards and formats. |
