The NCL recently purchased the Cataloger's Desktop and Classification Plus CD-ROM databases produced by the U.S. Library of Congress. The powerful classification and cataloging tools will help catalogers do their work without the headache of referring to multiple references.
Since each word has already been indexed in the Infobase information system, catalogers can access the data they need by performing a query or using the table of contents. Unlike printed cataloging references, the two CDROM databases allow catalogers to create shadow files that can be annotated and bookmarked. Information can also be conveniently located through hyperlink connections. The two databases are updated quarterly and usage licenses expire at the end of each quarter, unlike past licensing methods, under which older versions could be used indefinitely. The cost of licensing the new two systems is thus extremely low. |
