Vaginal cancer developed after hysterectomy for the treatment of endometrial cancer can be managed again surgically. Radical surgery, not a pelvic exenteration, is to excise the tissues more laterally and beyond the tumor in the hope that the disease can be cured and the lifestyle of patients can be maintained normally. However, due to the anatomy proximity of the tumor to the bladder and rectum, surgery is very challenging in terms of the procedures involved, the incidence of major complications, and the high mortality rate. The skill of techniques described needs a longer period of education and training. The patient mentioned as an example is alive and happy, with quality of life because she can urinate normally. Hopefully the surgical technique we provide and the result we have achieved can stimulate gynecologic oncologists of high quality to join us in improving the survival rate of patients and the quality of life as well. |
