Uterine myomas (called 'myomas', 'fibroids') are the most common hormone-dependent benign tumor in the female reproductive tract. Conventionally, surgical intervention is the most popular and definite treatment for symptomatic uterine myomas. Medical treatment is rarely discussed. Gonadotropin releasing hormone agonist (GnRH agonist) is one of the best drugs in the management of symptomatic uterine myomas; however, since this drug induces transient menopausal status of young women, who might bother from both physical and emotional health problems, the use of GnRH agonist is often temporary. Recently, selective progesterone receptor modulator has been reported to be effective in the management of uterine myomas. The aim of this brief report tried to introduce recent advances in medical treatment for uterine myomas. |
