There are three different governments in Taiwan from 1684 till 2015. We can realize the characteristics of the three different regimes from place names’ transition. The Ching Dynasty was negative, so that the place names in this period were naturally formed by residents. The Japanese colonial government respected residents locally, so that the place names in this period were local. The KMT government regarded place name as a tool of educating people, so that the place names in this period were full of politics’ flavor, and were far from local. |
