The goal of the research was to investigate initially the transformation of a chief of teacher-counselors through leadership experience when facing challenges and impacts in the job, and its aspects involved. Data was collected from in-depth interview and results were drawn from content analysis. First of all, three results of transformation as a chief of teacher-counselors were found. First, the participant of the research took the position as a chief of teacher-counselors with an internal motivation, which was to make a difference and establish an ideal counseling room that learned from mentors in the school. Second, due to the frustration from her authority not being recognized by her colleagues, she realized that being determined was important and adopting various strategies to prove her ability required time. Third, it was confirmed that professional training in counseling was helpful to carry out leadership, and learning from leadership practice was also helpful to increase self-efficacy. Three results of the aspects of leadership experience involved were also drawn. Fourth, personal belief of the research participant was tested again in leadership experience. Results suggested that being sincerely consistent and keeping positive attitude toward job challenges elevated her self-integrity. Fifth, the research participant confirmed that counseling skills were helpful to establish a trust relationship during system collaboration. Moreover, leadership experience broadened her awareness of working perspective that should be focused more on problem solutions and the effectiveness of results. At last, the research participant strengthened the ability of comprehending organizational culture and establishing cooperation that were necessary in dealing with school counseling as a chief of teacher-counselors in a senior high school. Suggestions toward the chiefs of school counseling sections were provided. |
