In order to understand the adulteration of triclosan, trichlorocarbanilide, hexachlorophene in marketed products of deodorants, 30 samples were purchased during the 1991 fiscal year. These samples were identification by thin-layer chromatography to see whether they contained triclosan, trichlorocarbanilide, or hexachlorophene. Once the results were shown to be positive, the method of high performance liquid chromatography would be further used to determine the contents. The results indicated that 5 samples (16.7%) were adulterated with triclosan, 2 samples (6.7%) were adulterated with hexachlorophene. |
