Corruption is a critical issue worldwide. Indeed, corruption amongst public servants constitutes a major hindrance to national development. In this paper I examine corruption in both Asian and Western nations, and compare the cultural factors which have a bearing on this phenomenon. Using document analysis, I categorize the most prevalent types of corruption, examine their underlying causes, and discuss the strategies employed for combatting them. In the conclusion I identify which anti-corruption strategies being employed overseas would also be suitable for application in Taiwan. |
