Cao Yin 曹寅 was a very competent official in the court of the Qing dynasty emperor Kang Xi康熙. In his later years (1705-1707), he was tasked with compiling the Complete Tang Poems 全唐詩 in Yangzhou揚州, Jiangsu province. This paper aims to research Cao Yin’s friends who participated in the main task of compiling and emending the Complete Tang Poems. At the same time, there is analysis of Cao Yin’s bibliographical achievements. Over the past fifty years, a number of researchers at home and abroad have investigated Cao Yin’s life story. However, they have been unable to reach full and accurate conclusions about his collection and printing of series of rare books. This research attempts to supplement conclusions about Cao Yin’s activities with materials from the early Qing dynasty, for example, catalogues, gazetteers, collected books and so on. At the same time, it presents an alternative point of view of publishing at the beginning of the Qing dynasty. |
