A total of 699 samples including 572 porcine livers and 127 chicken livers were collected during the period between July 1992 and June 1993 in Taiwan. Sulfa drug residues (including sulfathi azole, sulfamethazine, sulfamonomethoxine, sulfadimethoxine and sulfaquinoxaline) in samples were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed by thin layer chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography, respectively. Of 699 samples tested only a single porcine liver was found to contain sulfamethazine residue, and the level, 1.33 ppm, exceeded the tolerance set by Department of Health. |
