In response to the public concerns about the quality and safety of disposable chopsticks, 25 disposable chopstick samples imported from China, Vietnam, and Indonesia were collected from March to April, 2008 by the local health bureaus and residual sulfur dioxide, hydrogen peroxide, and biphenyl were determined by DOH official methods. The results showed that sulfur dioxide were detected in 9 samples in the range of 12.0~46.8 ppm, whereas hydrogen peroxide and biphenyl were not found in all samples, indicating all samples were in compliance with the regulation of ”Sanitation Standard for Disposable Chopsticks” promulgated on June 29(superscript th), 2007 by the Department of Health, Executive Yuan. |
