Professor Chen-ku Wang has being dedicated himself in promotion and education for librarianship for over sixty years. Due to his devoting efforts and leadeaship, combining with his easy-to-approach personality, he has been honoured as a pioneer of this field. Professor Wang is a most influential scholar toward Taiwan librarianship indeed if we count from his tremendous amount of researches and his great enthusiasm in applying his research findings in teaching and library practice. The two works, Collection of Theoretical Articles in Librarianship and Collected Works on Development of Librarianship in Taiwan, collected the most important works by Professor Wang, covering important issues such as topics concerning librarianship, culture, library automation, library administration, inter-library cooperation (including cross-strait communication and collaboration), etc. Although the topics of his researches are quite varied, most of his works emphasized the importance of standardization, cooperation, and practical usefulness. Professor Wang also has great concern about value of library profession, advocated that library education should meet the needs of our society. Therefore, until now, his concerns and researches could still serve as the principle guidelines for us in progressing librarianship. It is well agreed that Professor Wang's researches has nourished the development of librarianship and the related education in Taiwan, and are of indispensable value for library communitis in Taiwan. |
