This research collects Lanyu-related books which have been published in Taiwan and analyzes the publication information including title, publisher, publish year, place of publishing, subject and format in order to understand who are writing and how authors are constructing Lanyu's local knowledge. The results show that (1) Yami (Tao) authors play a more important role in producing and disseminating Lanyu's local knowledge; (2) The earliest book was published in 1954 and the number of published books related to Lanyu has increased since 2005; (3) Most books are published in Taipei and by government institutions; (4) Single author is the major form of authorship and the core author concentrates on a few people among Yami (Tao) authors; (5) The subjects of most of Lanyu-related books are related to social science; and (6) The format of these books is heterogeneous. Yami (Tao) authors tend to write more on traditional stories, poses and language learning handbooks. Whereas for non-Yami (Tao) authors, they concentrate more on academic books, travel guides and photography books. |
