Leo Oufan Lee's classic work, Shanghai Modern: the Flowering of a New Urban Culture in China, 1930-1945, not only has macroscopic views but also enlightens the readers in many ways. However, in the issue of ”The Commercial Press,” there are some views need to be discussed and renewed. There are three aspects discussing in the article. First of all, Leo Lee neglected to mention a major person Zhang Yuan Ji who was the manager of ”The Commercial Press.” Secondly, the statement of issuing magazine of The Eastern Miscellany was inconsistent comparing to the reality. Finally, Shenbao was misconceived as a publication of ”The Commercial Press.” |
