This paper examines how Itou Jinsai 伊藤仁齋, who was a Confucian in Japan's Edo period, and his son Itou Tougai 伊藤東涯 showed their political care through Shuekikeiyokutsukai 周易經翼通解, a book about I Ching written by Itou Tougai. I first provide a brief overview of the political discussions in Shuekikeiyokutsukai and its learing resource Chengshi I Zhuan 程氏易傳. I then argue that political discussions in Shuekikeiyokutsukai was not simply a copy of Cheng Yi 程頤's thought but Itou Jinsai and Itou Tougai's weapon to against Bukoku 武國's political atmosphere in Japan's Edo period. |
