The Chinese culture has existed for over five thousand years. It refers to the cultural systems of Mainland China and the other regions where the Chinese have been living together, such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau and so forth. The Chinese culture has been experiencing the evolution of time and history. It is a result of the long-term mutual exchanges, learning and fusion among the different regions and ethnic groups, beginning from ancient times and continuing to the modern era. The culture is a kind of intelligent power that combines many elements such as literature, science, philosophy, politics, economics, law, language, food, clothing, housing, transportation, recreation, art, religion and other aspects of customs, rituals, institutions and artifacts. In other words, it encompasses both spiritual civilization and material civilization. The Chinese culture has been cultivating and generating a lot of great philosophers and diverse philosophical schools, such as Taoism, Confucianism, Legalism, Mohist, Eclecticism, Strategists, Naturalists, Novelists, Artists, Farmers and many more. But the mainstream of philosophical schools of thought lie in Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. The powers of their interactive influence are always tremendous and extensive. The essence of the Chinese culture is Chinese philosophy. The center of Chinese philosophy is the “Tao”. The fundation of the “Tao” is practice and verification. “Tao” is the utmost goal accomplished in the Chinese culture, and also the main binding thread that runs through hundreds of Chinese philosophers and their philosophical ideas. In this article, the author intends to use a methodology and the procedures of case study to study the inheritance and the innovation of the Chinese Culture from multiple perspectives. When we are encountering the Third Industrial Revolution and the era of Internet, the Chinese culture has been absorbing the spirit of technological innovations, which has constructed a milestone onto the development of globalization. Throughout human history, culture inheritance and transformation have been the two major driving forces that forged the cultural innovation of a certain geographical region. With its essence unchanged, that is, reaching its highest goal of 'Tao', the contents of the Chinese culture have been merging science into philosophy and paving its way toward a development of 'innovation, great change, practice and verification.' This, without doubt, constitutes a sublime goal to pursue what truth, goodness, and beauty is all about and a deeper sublimation of the 'Tao' of the Chinese culture.
