This study aims to examine the effects of a smoking cessation education program for vocational high school students in Penghu County Taiwan. The quasi-experiment design was used. The smoking cessation education program "youth tap teaching model" included 12 hours smoking cessation courses and 3 times individual counseling. A total of 31 students in the experimental group and 32 students in the control group completed the baseline survey, 1-week and 1-month follow-up surveys. Generalized Estimating Equation was used to examine the effects. The results indicated that the smoking cessation program had positive effects on increasing students' knowledge, attitude, and self-efficacy of quitting smoking. In addition, students' daily number of cigarettes smoking and level of carbon monoxide significantly decreased after implementing the smoking cessation education program. The quit rates at 1-week and 1-month follow-up surveys for the experimental group were 22.6% and 12.9%, respectively. It is suggested that the incorporation of smoking cessation program into school education curricula and health services each semester to promote smoking cessation for students. |
