Ding Fubao is an important figure as a bibliographer, a private book collector, a Buddhist, and, a doctor as well. He was knowledgeable in both western medicine and Chinese herbal medicine. He practiced medicine on the one hand and engaged in publishing medical books and newspaper on the other, therefore, was instrumental in the dissemination of medical knowledge. However, the most important contribution by Dr. Ding was his compilation of many important primary collections. His compilation works greatly benefit the study and researches of Chinese classics. His approaches were mostly innovative for his time, and quite inspirational to us. The author tried to depict how Dr. Ding built up his own library, then taking examples from epigraph, lyrics and poems, and Buddhist Sutra to discuss about Dr. Ding’s idea and achievement in management of old books. |
