Due to the rising environmental consciousness from the public, many organizations including companies and governments start to take account of Green issues. More stringent policies and regulations have gradually imposed. However, low profitability was usually connected with green investment of the firms that are adapting "Green" as their core business concept. This study explores the relationship between a firm's green performance and its financial performance. In this study, the database from Newsweek Green Rankings is adopted to conduct the empirical study. In addition, the content of the green ranking provides some detailed information about green impact, management and disclosure are able to facilitate further investigation of the companies. The study discusses the results and the differences between the European and American companies. The empirical findings are used to clarify how the companies improve their competitiveness by doing green. Green performance has a positive relation to the financial performance. Green performance between US and European companies have significant differences. The comparison of the performance for Europe and American companies definitely proved that if the enterprises go for green management, the organizations themselves not only can avoid violating the regulations, they but also can enhance corporate image as well. More importantly, this enables the company to approach a better performance evaluation of the market, which can gain the future competitiveness to some extent. |
