In this paper, we propose techniques for improving traditional Chinese chess games such as animal chess, army chess, and military chess. Our approach is to embed an NFC smart tag for each chessman and to judge the battles of chessmen by using a provided judgment app. In a chess game, when battles between chessmen occur, players can scan their chessmen by using the mobile phone's NFC reader. The installed judgment app then determines the winner and displays the result on the screen or speaks it aloud through the text-to-speech function. The proposed techniques are suitable for covered-chess mode as a third-party arbiter to judge winners and losers. Finally, our techniques have the following advantages: They can reduce a person in covered-chess mode when only two people are present, and serve without misjudgment if the third person is unfamiliar with the rules. |
