Syaman Rapongan who spent his childhood in the ethnic conflict in the beginning of the culture radical change. After a series of flow on the Big Island which is Taiwan for many years, when he came back to the ancestral island Lanyu, in the Tao people’s traditional way of life, he once again felt completely nurtured by their culture. To those Han people who have strong culture advantages, it is difficult for them to understand the joy and pain of contradiction intertwined. That is on the one hand from building his ship, catching flying fish and participating in raw labor movement, anti-nuclear wastes movement, enabled his sinification (漢化) life to obtain eternal purification of ocean wave, in order to establish the Tao traditional warrior dignity. His writings from “八代灣的神話” (1992), “冷海情深” (1997), to more recent works “大海浮夢” (2014) and “安洛米恩之死” (2015), have presented the regression, conflict and even cultural conscious process. This process exchanges between hunting and fishing labor and writing efforts with his pen, and then focuses on poetic language style, determined life practice and original ethnic faith. This paper attempts to explore the value and significance of the ocean literature from a more integral perspective. |
