The 10 mm nylon and SKC cyclones are the two commonly used respirable personal dust samplers. Currently, the US ACGIH has recommended a new criteria for repirable dust sampling, which specifies an universal aerodynamic cut-off diameter to be 4.0 μm. The new ACGIH criteria is intended to replace the old ACGIH and BMRC criteria. This study is to find the new operating conditions for the two samplers to meet the new criteria. The experimental results indicate that at the flow rate of 1.3L/min for 10 mm nylon cyclone and 2.2L/min for SKC cyclone, the collection efficiency curves of the two samplers can meet the new ACGIH criteria. This paper also discusses the effect of pump pulsation, particle materials and sampler orientation on the collection efficiency curve. |
