A method of chemical speciation of mercury in urine and blood has been developed for biological monitoring of workers exposed to mercury. The automated flow injection analytical system coupled with cold vapor atomic absorption spectrophotometer (FIASCVAAS) was used to determine mercury vapor. In urine samples, the selective reduction was utilized to analyze total mercury and inorganic mercury. In whole blood samples, different digestion methods for the determination of total mercury and inorganic mercury were used. Both methods showed good precision, recovery, detection limit and accuracy. The concentration is below detection limit (0.06 μg/L) from needle contaminant, heparin and EDTA tubes and urine containers. The sampling time is suggested at the end of week for blood, and random for urine. On transferring samples, mercury concentration does not change in 4℃ ice chest. Urine and blood should be stored at -20℃ and analyzed within two months as soon as possible. |
