A study of evaluation on immune functions of workers in hog farms in Taiwan was investigated by periferal blood study. A reference data was suggested and the effect of personal characteristics and work related factors were monitored. Twelve items of tests including WBC profiles, NK cells counts, immunoglobulin titers and lymphocyte subsets were used. Most of the tests, showed that over 80% of the persons were within the normal ranges. The results showed a tendency that both of the innate and acquired immune functions declined with aging and past history except NK cells. Workers with cold freqency over twice in the year tested, showed a significant lower value of the sum of normal items. Three work related factors exhibited effects on different immune systems. A generalized influence was found when analyzed by different farms; effects on cellular immune functions by different kinds of works and, humoral immune functions by different exposure level to feed dust, that were found to be significantly different on percentage of B lymphocyte and immunoglobulin titers of IgA. |
