Family is supposed to be a save place for everyone to grow and cope outside stress. However, the report rate of domestic violence has been almost increasing during the past ten years. For dealing this serious problems, the authors develop a brief marital education program, which includes emotional, conflict, sexual, and recreational communication 15-minute role play video and a consensus test for both parties which includes 6 items on what is the favorite snack, recreation, and most value thing on both parties and 4 yes-no questions on whether 4 deal methods are right. Eighteen couples registered in a hot-air-balloon mass wedding in a county were recruited in this study for this brief marital education under the trained volunteers. Results showed that averagely 73.5% agreed it is helpful and 23.5% mentioned half-half. Males show higher on the helpful option than female (82.4% vs. 61.5%). After the session, more than half items showed significant progresses on both parties. The consensus test also showed the emotional, conflict, sexual and total communication scores and the significant positive relation with understanding sense of value each other, which might be most helpful for new couples to maintain good relationship. In the end, the authors suggested that central government should start to open the brief marital education for new couples before they register their marriage. By starting the related program, people might start to value the marital and familial communication, then the need for family education and counseling might start, and family function might become better overall and family might start be become a safe and warm place for all people. |
