Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are one of the most common occupational illnesses in industries. Compared to other industries, construction workers generally experience considerably physical workload. In this study, a survey using structured questionnaire was conducted at worksites to explore the MSDs for building construction workers. A total of 531 subjects working in Taipei were interviewed. Questionnaire included individual and employee-related factors, musculoskeletal complaints, work-related awareness, and risk factors. The results showed that 97.4% of workers experienced musculoskeletal pains in the past and only 51.6% of them sought medical care. The ergonomics-related risk factors virtually exist in all construction activities. It revealed that the risks of MSDs for building construction workers are usually higher. The working attitudes and physical endurance of the construction workers may increase the risks of MSDs. |
