There are about thirty thousand employees in the postal service business in Taiwan. Postal operators, because of heavy workload, repeated motion of task and outdoor duty, may encounter work-related health and safety problems. The purpose of this study is to investigate postal operators’ work-related injury or health risks. A total of 124 workers, including 69 mail carriers, 24 mail sorters and 31 parcel process workers, was randomly selected from the post office of northern Taiwan for analysis. A constructive questionnaire was distributed to each subject to collect data. Results showed that 32% of mail carriers were bitten by dogs in the past three years, and 27.5% of mail carriers were involved in car accidents while on duty. Meanwhile, 20% of postal operators reported musculoskeletal symptoms like carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). |
