Lin Quan Gao Zhi, written by Guo Xi and compiled by his son Guo Si, is an artistic theory book intends to discuss systematically and completely the Landscape painting. Guo Xi used to learn from Taoism, which possibly had exerted substantial influence on artistic creation and artistic theory with reference to Lin Quan Gao Zhi. We could find the trace of philosophy of Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi in many places in this book, for instance, its view about spirits of artists and ink painting, its pursuit of harmony between man and nature. Because of its reference to the philosophy of Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi, this book is like a monument in the history of Chinese artistic theory and affected the later Chinese artists practically. |
