The purpose of this article is to promote the utilization rate of open wound care beds in surgical wards. Because of open wound care bed- associated complaints and increasing events of medical harms, most of nurses were reluctant to take care of the patients in open wound care bed. The analyzed causes included lack of care standards for open wound care bed, lack of knowledge about open wound care bed, inconsistent wound dressing change, lack of wound care bed assessment tool and insufficient dressing, and lack of a monitoring mechanism. With established care standards, designed wound assessment during shift change, sufficient dressing supplies, arranged educational training, and developed monitoring program, the nurses’ knowledge increased from 50.6% to 83.2% in utilization of open wound care bed and from 70.3% t 90.7% in accuracy of dressing change. The improvement results facilitated the quality of an open wound care bed, decreased patients’ complaints of dressing changes, and promoted the care team’s harmony and entire quality of wound care. |
