Ukraine is home to 46 million people, 77.8% of whom are Ukrainians by ethnicity, and with a sizable minority of Russians (17.3%), as well asTatars etc. Ukrainian is the official language of Ukraine. The dominant religion in the country is Eastern Orthodoxy. In August 1991, a conservative faction among the Communist leaders of the Soviet Union attempted a coup. After it failed, on 24 August 1991 the Ukrainian parliament adopted the Act of Independence. Then, the Ukrainian elected Leonid Kravchuk as the first President of Ukraine. The EU policy towards the state of Ukraine is based upon the framework in the 1998 Partnership and Cooperation Agreement. This agreement initiated the cooperation on broad range of political, economic, trade, and humanitarian issues. This paper will explore how the European Union develops its Strategies towards Ukraine from the historical approach. And the effects will be analyzed and commented. |
