This article is to preliminarily propose a social environmental approach to studying creativity. The literature concerning creativity and the social environment, particularly the educational social environment, is reviewed here. Anderson’s concept of “Open vs. Closed Systems” in higher education and the crosscultural theory of creativity are also introduced. The discussion emphasizes the previously neglected field of social environment and highlights the relationship between social environmental factors and creativity with a few research done in school social environments. |
