Functional gastrointestinal disorders(FGIDs)and inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) are very common and present major challenges for clinicians, as their causes and pathogenic machine transfer are unknown. Psychological factors and diet may affect the enteric nervous system, causing symptoms of discomfort and reducing the quality of life. Consequently, treatment has spanned multiple modalities and has involved a variety of health professionals. However, fermentable oligo-, di- and monosaccharides and polyols, referred to by the acronym,ÂFODMAPÊ, are poorly absorbed and rapidly ferment which may cause bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and other symptoms of discomfort. This review described the main sources of FODMAP and their impacts on gastrointestinal symptoms, offering references for improving the quality of nutritional care in gastrointestinal disorders. |
