以對等觀點分析「聊齋誌異」英譯本之誤譯

The Analysis of Distortions in the English Translations of Liaozhai Zhiyi: From the Perspective of Equivalence Effects

Difficulty of translation arises when there exists no language equivalent of similar meanings shared by the source language and target language, in particular, when the source text is cultural-specific. Inappropriate rendition of this cultural terms leads to distortions in the target text. This paper sorts out two types of distortions, which are respectively at dynamic and formal equivalence levels, in the English translation of Liaozhai Zhiyi (聊齋誌異) to discuss the difficulty emerging in literature and cultural translation. In the conclusion, the issue of domestication and foriegnization is brought up to indicate what criterion a translator can follow or refer to in the decision-making process of translation. A new light is given to the implication of foriegnization in a new historical context as well.原文與譯文間若無意義對等的辭彙，翻譯的難度便會增加，尤其當原文富有特定文化辭彙時更是如此。文化辭彙若未善加處理，容易導致誤譯的產生。本文以動態對等及靜態對等之觀點，整理出《聊齋誌異》英譯本中此二種層面之誤譯，以探討文學及文化翻譯之困難。本文結論處，筆者進一部探討譯者如何利用歸化及異化的觀點進行翻譯決策。
