In overall economic performance over the past nine years, Taiwan and Korea have both been winners in different ways while also being in competition with each other. Although in recent years both the International Institute of Management Development (IMD) and the World Economic Forum (WEF) have ranked Taiwan’s competitiveness far ahead of Korea’s, the speed with which Korea has been closing the gap should serve to remind Taiwan that it has no room for complacency. Indeed, to retain its high position in the global competitiveness rankings, Taiwan needs to step up its efforts to maintain its existing competitive advantages while also working strenuously to improve its comparative weaknesses. |
